Hometown Hotpot & BBQ at 194 Grand St offers a lively spot for those drawn to the shared experience of hot pot and Korean-style barbecue. It’s the kind of place where groups gather to dive into a bubbling pot of broth with a wide variety of fresh ingredients, or flip marinated meats on the grill at their table.

The atmosphere here leans toward casual and roomy, with seating flexible enough to accommodate both intimate dinners and larger celebrations—a noted favorite for birthday parties, especially with their deal where the birthday person eats free with a group of four or more. The restaurant is known locally for an extensive menu, featuring not only crowd-pleasing hot pot staples but also unique offerings like stuffed bean curd skin and multiple broth options ranging from curry soup base to a spicy mala broth. Vegetarians will find the curry broth and a generous selection of vegetables and tofu to choose from, while barbecue lovers can enjoy a range of meats like beef ribs, which get frequent praise for their flavor.

Part of the charm comes from the condiment and sauce bar, which invites diners to experiment with flavor combinations, making each meal feel interactive and customized. Service can vary somewhat due to its popularity and busy times, with occasional waits being common, though the staff generally come across as attentive and helpful. Many patrons mention that the food quality remains consistent and fresh, a key reason for repeat visits.

Best visited with a group, especially for those who appreciate sharing plates and lingering over good conversation fueled by the communal style of dining. Early weekday evenings might offer a quieter experience compared to the busier weekend rushes that hint at the restaurant’s local popularity.

There was a bit of a wait and although it was my first time there, I get the sense that there’s always a wait and with that service may be a hit or a miss. Our server though was great and very helpful. The food was great, but hotpot is one of my favorite dishes so I may be biased but I truly enjoyed it. We chose just the hotpot but there’s an option to do both hotpot and barbecue. It was a full house and kind of on the loud side but we were still able to talk albeit louder than usual. Overall, a great food experience and I’ll definitely go back.!

Absolutely loved it — again! My boyfriend and I discovered Hometown Hotpot & BBQ last year when we were visiting NYC, and we couldn’t stop thinking about it ever since. So this year, we brought his dad along to try it — and it was just as amazing as we remembered! The food was fresh and flavorful, the sauces were endless (we loved trying different combinations!), and the staff were super friendly and attentive. Everything was perfectly cooked, and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. It’s such a fun dining experience — especially if you enjoy grilling your own food or sharing a hotpot meal together. Definitely one of our favorite spots in New York. Highly recommended!

Been here so many times! The food here is always exceptional!!! Love it and would highly recommend! The beef ribs are so delicious, and just so you know the mala broth is SUPER spicy! But it is still really good so I usually get it with the chicken broth on the other side. Great place for birthday celebrations (bday person eats free if party is 4 or more)! The service is fantastic!!! Can’t wait to be back soon!

Serves Malaysian hotpot and bbq. It is an all-you-can-eat restaurant so get your belly ready to be full. The menu is extensive and lot to choose from. They also have several varieties of dipping sauce so its up to you how you will customize it to your liking. The staff are very attentive and nice. The place is also huge and they can host parties for up to 200 people. I definitely recommend this spot!

My favorite hot pot place in nyc. Plus the birthday deal is so worth it as long as you come in within 3 days of it and bring 4 people you can eat for free. Sauce station is amazing, and so are the soup bases, which I loved that as a vegetarian I had so many options. I got curry and was very satisfied with all the different veggies i was able to try along with types of tofu and noodles. Love this spot and service is very quick and friendly!

Price was a $41.99 deal for both hotpot and BBQ per person. AYCE. Service was good, we got the curry and Chinese herbal both, the curry broth was very flavorful.
